Last Friday the Smoking Gun PR team hit the field at Lancashire County Cricket Club alongside a Hippo, a Duck and a giraffe called Lanky – average start to the weekend for this Manchester based PR agency.
As official business partners of Lancashire County Cricket Club for 2014, Lancashire based Silentnight’s famous duo visited the Emirates Old Trafford stadium to take part in a pillow fight with LCCC mascot Lanky in front of over 8,000 cricket fans, to decide which mascot was the strongest in the county.
Before the battle for Lancashire pride began, Hippo & Duck worked the crowd alongside Lanky, engaging with families through photos, handshakes, waves and signed autographs (plus the odd fist bump).
During the first break and interval, we sampled Silentnight pillows and Hippo & Duck soft toys to the cricket crazed crowds, with the help of the team from The Bedding Company, which sparked a pillow and toy grabbing frenzy in the stands. Sports media, including Sky Sports News, BBC North West Tonight, BBC Radio Manchester and Manchester Evening News, were also gifted with Silentnight pillows – fortunately the match was exciting enough to stop them from snoozing in the press box!
And then for the main event. The mitts were off as Hippo and Lanky took to the pitch for the fight, which was captured on smartphones by the crowd and created conversation on social media. Smoking Gun PR tweeted and shared content from LCCC and the crowd throughout the evening on Silentnight’s feed.
The Smoking Gun PR team captured the evening through photos and film, and edited a photo album and a short film of the activity, which has been shared on both Silentnight and The Bedding Company social channels – check out our Friday fun and games below.
