A weekly roundup of talking points, sans effort
Thought for the week
“Russia is a cow from whom she can come and get milk – that is, money – and then leave, while not following our laws.” St Petersburg MP Vitaly Milonov, discussing Madonna’s gay rights speech during her concert in Russia’s second city, which some believe violated national legislation by potentially having an adverse effect on the nation’s birth rate.
Worth the paper it’s printed on

Weekly high
More Movember news this week, with the likes of British Airways, Virgin, Qantas and WestJet all painting moustaches on the front of their aircraft in order to pledge support for the month-long drive to raise money and increase awareness of testicular and prostate cancer.
Weekly low
Poor old Susan Boyle. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out this talented Scottish opera singer isn’t the most image-savvy star in the record store. Unfortunately apparently her public relations representatives seem a little unsure too, what with the now infamous LP launch hashtag.
Things that might happen this week…
The results of the Leveson inquiry into media standards (phone hacking etcetera) will be made public on Thursday, and on the same day Smoking Gun PR staff will head to Gorton Monastery for the annual CIPR PRide North West awards, with our office in the running for 9 trophies. Oh, and Argentina may default on its national debt after a U.S. court ruled $1.3billion owed needs to be paid back immediately.
