Each year at Smoking Gun PR we are given a fund for personal development. What counts as personals development I hear you ask…well anything really! Any way in which we feel we will develop our skills as a person, whether it’s at home or in work.
So, just in-time to hop on the New Year’s resolution bandwagon, I booked myself on a cupcake decorating course in the hopes of fulfilling my dream to bake more.
With our office in Spinningfields, we’re fortunate enough to work close to Hey Little Cupcake, which provides baking classes and some of the most delicious cupcakes you ever did taste.

I attended their Cupcake Decorating Class earlier in the month. While my cake baking skills are mostly up to scratch, my icing skills left a lot to be desired, so I thought this class would be best for me.

Along with seven other baking mad women, I learnt to ice in six different styles over two hours, from creating a cupcake cookie monster to a garden-style masterpiece.

The most interesting thing I learnt is that it’s actually quite simple to do once you learn the technique, which I guess goes for a lot of things in life! I can also categorically say this is not an entirely selfish skill to learn, as the cakes were scoffed in the office the next day.
