October 2019 in the Smoking Gun HQ

Smoking Gun HQ

It’s hard to believe we’re now two months from the end of the year. This is no time for reflection, though. We’ve been hard at it as ever, with political and broadcast training, creative work for a new herbal client and campaign launches for established favourites.

October has seen us knuckle down to develop a wintry animation for The Leaf Life’s range of lightly sparkling drinks. Infused with CBD, a chemical compound extracted from the cannabis plant, this clip is the first evidence of our media relations and digital content strategy work for the company, adding another string to our food and drink PR bow.

Elsewhere, our team recently launched a campaign for Support Adoption For Pets. Focusing on ‘reptile awareness’, the push echoes our pet PR work around National Dog Day , garnering attention for a consistently overlooked bearded dragon who needs to find her forever home. Metro certainly thought it was newsworthy

As per usual, Smoking Gun’s team have been given plenty of opportunities for career development and skill widening, too. Staff attended the Good Broadcast event with BBC Breakfast where they gained invaluable insights into radio and television practice. Meanwhile, senior figures at the agency were sent for training with growth consultancy Ruby Star Associates. The crux being ‘Action Learning’ as a means of problem solving— a theory well-matched to our can-do approach to comms.

From external to in-house workshops, we used the headline-grabbing work of Led By Donkeys as basis for team creative training. Designed to encourage both visual and hijack PR thinking, we set the Guns the task of coming up with highly engaging campaign ideas for the political guerrilla marketing group. The winning concept was as simple as it is poignant.

Another example of the ingeniousness and innovation our Manchester HQ is well-known for IRL, with that in mind it’s time we wrapped this up and got back to the ideas meeting. After all, public relations, marketing and social media wait for no brand, and we have plenty of those in need of our help. See you in November, then.
