Winter is here, but we have plenty of in-house news to warm your hearts. After all, they don’t call it World Kindness Day for nothing, and that’s before we mention further award shortlists for this Manchester PR agency — including ‘agency of the year’ — and more pioneering work to help push the industry forward.
This evening we’ll be attending the CIPR PRide Awards North West in Manchester, where we are up for two accolades; Best Use of Media Relations — read our MD Rick Guttridge’s thoughts on why this is now more vital than ever for brands — and Outstanding Public Relations Consultancy. Given our track record on the red carpet, we have high hopes for the ceremony, and big plans for the after party, of course.
Rick has also been heavily involved in AMEC Measurement Month again. Producing a slew of blogs, interviews and video content to raise awareness about the initiative, which looks to help agencies and brands improve their campaign evaluation, as a recognised Measurement Champion agency we had plenty of advice to impart.
Hence our recent posts on the changing nature of success metrics and how econometrics should really be used.

How do you persuade #PR clients (especially those with modest resources) to invest in measurement and evaluation? @RickGuttridge of @SmokingGunPR shares his wisdom for @AmecOrg Measurement Month. #AMECMM #AMECagencies https://t.co/6XQYrSGUan

Not so unlucky, 13th November was World Kindness Day, and — inspired by what we know about the importance of feeling valued and mental wellbeing in the workplace — all team members received a brown tag, on which was written what others thought and admired about them. The results are currently on a special tree at this Manchester PR agency’s office. Next time you’re in the neighbourhood call in and see what we had to say.
Elsewhere, we’ve been in attendance at the PRCA Digital PR & Communications launch event, along with the Northern Growth Forum at Alliance Manchester Business School, where our team was joined by none other than Jonathan Warburton, of the country’s most famous breadmakers.
That’s not all, either. We welcomed SEO consultants to deliver expert training for our own staff, focused on link building and optimisation. And 2019 marks our second year at Native Creatives, a regional event designed to inspire and educate current students on the ins and outs of working in PR, advertising and social media.
Always committed to spreading and improving understandings of best practice, and leading on what exactly that best practice is, the eleventh month of the year has been another we can all be proud of here at Smoking Gun. An ideal precursor to December’s mayhem and merriment, get in touch if you fancy popping in for a mulled wine and chat in the coming weeks.
