January 2018 in the Smoking Gun study

Talk about starts to the year; if 2017 was an epic drama, the new calendar has begun in real scene-stealing fashion. Thankfully, here at headquarters jaws have been dropping for all the right reasons, so read on if you want the inside scoop.
There’s no bigger news than our recent client win. We’re delighted to welcome MSD Animal Health, which will be using the team’s expertise in social media marketing, B2B and B2C PR to achieve great things going forward. We’ll be calling on our huge experience in the pet public relations sector to mastermind plenty of furry friended triumphs; here are some examples of other work in this field, which show what we can do.

It also gives us great pleasure to welcome Kat Woodcock as our new Account Manager after several years at some of the biggest agencies in the game, specialising in consumer projects, albeit sporting enough experience to hit the ground running with brands across our portfolio.
Oscars season is upon us, but in comms the trophy months run pretty much all year round. Hence the time we have spent submitting entries to the prestigious PR Moment Awards whilst our MD has been happily judging the Southern based element of the awards. In 2017 we were nominated in seven categories, and after success on the CIPR PRide red carpet expectations are, well, you know.
Aside from all this, our-ever busy man at the top, Rick Guttridge, has been up to his usual knowledge-sharing tricks. Students at Manchester Metropolitan University received a talk— the latest in a longstanding relationship between Smoking Gun and the academic institution— while he was also present at the launch of the 17th annual Deloitte Technology, Media and Telecommunications Report.
Sticking with reports, we have two white papers of our own now available to download for free. The first of which offers insights into the benefits of earned media compared with bought advertising, taking into account fake news, the second an overview of the biggest trends set to emerge in consumer culture during the coming months. We hope you find both informative, and will see you next month once the contents have been properly processed.
