To describe it as the UK PR industry’s favourite awards ceremony might be going a little far (although perhaps not), but regardless it’s definitely high on the winners list here at Smoking Gun. And for obvious reasons.
The Chip Shop Awards, run by The Drum, celebrates that most difficult of qualities to find- spontaneous creativity. Granted, it’s also about poking fun at stern faced advertising culture and generally have a laugh, however off the cough inspiration and ingenuity play a huge part. As such, despite the fact it’s name references pieces of card stuck to shop windows offering all manner of goods and services in often incidentally amusing ways, there’s far more to it all than that.
2013 sees the tenth anniversary of the chippies, and to celebrate an exhibition launches tonight (VIP only) and tomorrow (public), running through until 19th October, celebrating the best entries of the decade and showcasing ten specially commissioned additions to the collection, as decided on by reader votes taken via The Drum’s website in recent weeks. If you’re interested, the work will be on display at Framestore, 9 Noel Street, London, and you can see the nominations for this year here. We thoroughly recommend taking a look at the earliest opportunity.
