We couldn’t have commissioned better timing ourselves, starting from Monday, Channel 4 is running Fake News Week, with programming running through both entertainment and factual arms of the station, just days after we ran our own blog post on the rise in ‘alternative facts’ and the impact this can have on brands, PR, the press and marketing. One for the pile marked ‘Are You Definitely Serious- This Actually Happened’?, before being swiftly refiled under ‘WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!!!!’, Currys PC World’s branch in Wrexham, North Wales, decided to take drastic steps to stop people they deem undesirable rooting through their bins looking for valuables, and put up the sign pictured above. Needless to say, anyone with a shred of empathy for the plight of those less fortunate than themselves has taken offence, apologies have been issued, but that doesn’t change how awful it is.
