The Blagger's Blog 15th November 2013

A weekly roundup of media news and talking points, sans effort

Thought for the Week

“The choice is to use the same truck either to distribute food or collect bodies.” Alfred Romualdez, the mayor of Tacloban, commenting on the speed at which aid is arriving in the Philippine city, which was devastated by Typhoon Haiyan, resulting in a death toll that is believed to exceed 4,000.

Weekly High

Unveiled late last month, this teaser advert for Sony’s much-hyped, uber-anticipated PS4, somehow only found its way onto a Smoking Gun desktop monitor this week. Late start aside, as avid gamers that have played on every generation of what was once nicknamed  ‘the little grey box’ this nostalgic journey through the life of one ‘player’ deserved some Blagging attention.

Weekly Low

Proving that Corporate Social Responsibility can be more difficult to master than most assume, Kellogg’s has been under fire this week after offering to buy a needy child breakfast in exchange for a re-tweet. Needless to say, it didn’t take long for critics to voice concerns over what happens to the kids if the public doesn’t get involved in the campaign. Note to self: choose words wisely.

Things that may happen in the next week

Tonight staff from Smoking Gun PR will celebrate winning no less than two Gold and one Silver at the CIPR PRide Awards North West earlier this week. On Tuesday MPs on the Culture, Media and Sport Committee will question Facebook’s UK and Ireland policy director over child safety online. The search will continue for a man who fell out of a small plane at 2,000ft altitude close to Miami.

Just in case you missed it…

Twitter has now introduced Timelines. The idea is to give users more control over what they see on the network. Read the full story here.
If there is a success story, blunder, or news event you’d like to see included email or tweet using #blaggersblog. Happy Friday!
